Contracts of Employment

Most employees are legally entitled to a Written Statement of the main terms and conditions of employment within two calendar months of starting work. This is known as a contract of employment.

A Contract is a legally binding mutual agreement between an Employer and Employee. It contains statements about the particular ‘Terms and Conditions’ under which employment is agreed.

Principally, it covers:

  • employment conditions,
  • rights
  • responsibilities
  • duties

Whilst most employment contracts do not need to be in writing to be legally valid, it is best that they are. Having a well drafted contract should enable clarity of understanding for both parties of the basis on which employment has been mutually agreed.

Sickness and Absence Management

Aside to the negative effects on production, the financial and emotional costs of employee absenteeism can be crippling to any business, regardless of operational size.

A recent survey conducted by the CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development) showed that the average number of days’ absence per employee per year is just below 7 days. More significantly mental ill-health and stress now accounts for over just over 30% of all long term absences, a 13% increase in just two years.

Are you equipped to deal with mental health issues? We will offer practical advice and implement procedures for managing absence in your workplace, improve employee attendance and drive down costs.

  • Creation and communication of an employee absence reporting procedure (correlates to the Disciplinary procedure)
